Opus offers short course programmes attuned to the needs of the industry:

Stormwater Management

This two-day course examines both traditional and contemporary stormwater management systems. While popular with stormwater designers new to the industry, the course offers themes and practical examples that general practitioners will find extremely useful. Topics include:

  • Traditional stormwater management
  • Hydraulic design
  • Flood management options
  • Pipe installation and materials
  • Construction silt control
  • Water quality and treatment
  • Resource Management Act context and catchment planning

Water and Environmental Sampling

A one-day course for water and environmental sampling, specifically developed for technicians and/or professionals working in the water quality and/or environmental “monitoring” industry. Unit standards are available.

CCTV of Reticulation Assets

Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) is an essential element in the surveying of water reticulation assets.  The course covers preparation of assets for survey by CCTV, equipment, procedures and recording and/or coding of pipe conditions. This course is specifically designed for CCTV technicians, maintenance and operations supervisors, and professionals working in the water reticulation asset management industry.  Unit standard 22107 is available.

Principles and Trends in Water or Wastewater Treatment

Opus offers a week-long course on the principles and trends in water or wastewater treatment covering the fundamentals of treatment sciences and processes.
The course covers the regulatory background, treatment processes, industry trends, and site visits. Guest presenters are invited to highlight technologies and trends in the industry.
This course has been an excellent introduction to treatment principles for engineers, treatment operators, compliance/consent officers, health protection officers and suppliers.

Process Control

This course covers the principles of automated process control with an emphasis on their application to water treatment processes, using examples found in water treatment, such as pH control.  Designed for operators, supervisors and managers of treatment plants, service and maintenance personnel, engineers, and asset managers.  The course covers instruments, sensors, types of process controls, digital control systems (PLC and computer based control), critical points, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and data communication types.
