One of the key reasons for the establishment of the Environmental Business Management capability within Opus was the wish to react to the growing opportunities resulting from the “greening” of society.

Governments, environmental agencies, and the interest of the public have placed a focus on more science-based research in environmental areas.  The New Zealand Local Government Act 2002 requires local authorities to “take a sustainable development approach” particularly with regard to social, economic, cultural and environmental factors.
