An asset management approach is utilised in Opus’ geotechnical work with AMCO, who are responsible for construction and maintenance projects on the railway.
Opus’ work focuses on the identification and remediation of ancient mining features on the railway, which can pose a significant risk to infrastructure and railway personnel. Opus has partnered with AMCO to deliver this work over the last five years, which forms part of the London North Eastern (LNE) Territory Minor Works contract.
Specific projects include:
- Stabilisation work of rail track beneath the M62 (MVN2 line) in West Yorkshire. Common sense engineering for the drilling and grouting stabilisation works minimised disruption to the Trans-Pennine route.
- Investigating possible ancient mine workings at Sheffield Station within the Silkstone Coal Seam. A flexible work approach was developed to work within the curtailed possession programme due to station access constraints.
