A Travel Plan produced by Opus, with a focus on sustainability, helped a school in Doncaster get the go-ahead for new facilities.

Among several sustainable initiatives, Opus recommended a walking bus scheme to encourage local children to lead active and healthy lives by getting to school on foot.

Opus attended a Public Exhibition held at the school, for members of the local community, including local businesses, teachers and parents.

The Travel Plan sparked a lot of interest and our ideas to integrate the walking bus scheme and other sustainable initiatives into the school syllabus were well received. Teachers were also keen to get involved and to help promote the scheme and involve the children.

Other sustainable travel initiatives, such as the creation of an interchange hub at a proposed Park and Ride site have also been adopted by the client.

The green features helped the client to obtain planning permission to convert a redundant Officers Mess building on an old RAF site in Doncaster.

Opus has received feedback from the school and is pleased to hear that the teachers, parents and children are all enjoying their new facilities.
