Opus was commissioned to recommended feasible improvements for implementation in the 2006/2007 financial year.
Four bus services, with a peak frequency of approximately 30 buses per hour, traverse the A219 Shepherd's Bush Road which runs north-south through west London. The routes serve a number of key destinations that include the University of Surrey’s Roehampton campuses, Queen Mary's Hospital, Hammersmith Broadway, Shepherd's Bush Green, BBC Television Centre and Hammersmith Hospital. The Shepherd's Bush Road routes suffer from poor service reliability and slow journey times brought about by increasing levels of congestion, leading to one of the worst Quality Service Indicator's in London.
Where schemes were feasible the practical implementation constraints have been determined and the impacts assessed in detail. These covered both the physical “buildability” and the affects on the other stakeholders such as local businesses and residents. Our recommendations recognised the need to balance efficient traffic flows with local business and resident requirements - and included the installation of inset parking bays, improvements to pavement tmarkings and amendments to parking and loading restrictions.
