Opus is providing consultancy advice on the transportation aspects of the Westfield London development at White City, a £1.6 billion shopping and leisure destination which, once complete, will be one of Europe’s largest.
The development includes £170 million of new multi-modal transport facilities involving two new bus terminals, a new underground station and a new overland railway station, as well as a 4,500 capacity car park and numerous highway improvements.
Opus’ role was to peer review the transport assessment to determine the development’s impact and identify necessary improvements to infrastructure, including the additional critical feature of accounting for the extension of London’s congestion charging scheme.
Opus is working closely with Transport for London, as the development must also allow for the future provision of the West London Tram. Other work consists of safety auditing, assessment of cycle and pedestrian facilities, VMS strategy development, car park management systems, and the identification of highway design improvements.
