500 Basford-Hough-Shavington Bypass, Rail Bridge, United Kingdom

Country: United Kingdom
Key Area: Transportation
Services: Civil Engineering,Transportation Infrastructure Design

The 195 metre five-span railway over-bridge was part of Opus’ engineering work completing the £28 million Basford-Hough-Shavington Bypass.

To avoid disruption to the main rail link, to and from the North-West of England, the bridge was slid into place on Christmas Day. Additional engineering achievements included seven other over-bridges, including a combined foot/cycleway, moving 700,000 cubic meters of earth, and numerous culverts.

Opus provided a full consultancy service from inception through public consultation to acting as The Highways Agency’s site representative during construction. The Bypass is part of the east/west route between Crewe and the M6 which diverts arterial traffic away from the villages of Shavington and Hough.
