Developing our People Award

2006

2007 Civil Engineering Cadetship Team, New Zealand

This is an excellent achievement for a team, led by Jim Muir, dedicated to “sharing its knowledge”. This team is much bigger than the tutors and assistants who delivered the course, and it includes the IT and administrative people, the support of the HR Managers, as well as people from Central Laboratories and from Environmental Training Centre.  The team demonstrated many company values in delivering the programme to sixty-one new recruits with such diligence and enthusiasm. This is a programme we can all be very proud of and many more recruits will benefit from this for years to come.

2005

Jim Muir, South Auckland Area Manager & Pukekohe Business Manager, New Zealand

Each year, Opus recruits a large number of school leavers as engineering cadets. During 2005 Jim Muir promoted the development of a programme for introducing new recruits to a broad range of civil engineering subjects. This programme includes classroom presentations, site visits, field work and project assignments. The first two-week course was held in Wellington in January 2006 and was attended by 55 engineering cadets. It included presentations by 20 of our staff, who all shared their knowledge and experience. The establishment and organisation of this engineering cadet training programme was a major undertaking which Jim undertook in addition to his normal duties.  He was supported by many other Opus people who all made a very strong commitment to living the Opus value for developing our people.
