Community Service Award

2005

The Turakina Wildlife Reserve Centre Kiwi Enclosure Project

This project has been the Opus Wanganui community project for 2005. This design and build operation has been led by our graduates and engineering cadets. It has been a highly successful project capturing the imagination of staff who have volunteered their labour after hours and at weekends. The team designed, sourced material, and constructed the kiwi enclosure which has been designed to stringent DOC standards. Key team members have been Paul Wilson (Grad Engineer), Bob Smith (Snr Manager), Jim Ennis (Snr Manager), Tony Moran (Team Leader Civil), Vanessa Jones (Grad Planner), Scott Francis (Eng Cadet) and Steven Darby (Lab Technician). All staff from Opus Wanganui have enjoyed a great team spirit and a sense of cooperation with a win-win being the establishment of the kiwi enclosure to conserve and protect our natural heritage.
