We value our strong health and safety culture and have in place an on-going and comprehensive health and safety programme. Opus has a health and safety aim of a zero harm workplace, which  is based on the principle that all accidents are preventable.

Through our Chief Executive, David Prentice we have participated in a recent initiative which reflects the commitment to promote safety in the workplace. The initiative has a focus on active, involved, individual, and collaborative leadership to reduce workplace deaths and injury tolls and involves working towards a vision of creating zero harm workplaces, through sharing information, and providing effective safety leadership.  Opus' participation demonstrates our commitment in practice to ensuring that we have a safe workplace, and that no one is injured in the course of our work.

David has pledged:

• to take personal responsibility for making health and safety a vital part of our business, and;
• to create a workplace where everyone views health and safety as natural and important as quality, profit and customer service.

This pledge is applied across the Company in all the jurisdictions in which we operate.  We have also introduced a number of initiatives to encourage a safe working environment including:

• Updated incident reporting to allow better identification of root cause, and appropriate measures to prevent future incidents;
• The establishment of an Incident Investigation Working Group to consider all incident reports, ensure appropriate analysis and promulgation of preventive measures;
• The introduction of Opus Health and Safety awards.

Creating, and maintaining, a robust health and safety culture requires continual attention, which we apply at all levels of our organisation. Our health and safety performance is reviewed on a regular basis and given coverage in team briefs and through health and safety newsletters and alerts.
